What's happening this summer
The Chain Link
Welcome to the first issue of the Black Hills Bike Hub newsletter. We have been working on several projects and want to keep all of our members and supporters up to date on our work and the work in our community!
Trails: A Masterful Plan
Our Trails committee is working hard on several projects. First, working alongside the Rapid City Parks and Rec staff, we hope to finalize the Request for Proposals (RFP) to select the contractor that will design and build the bike park with Vision Funds. Our goal is to finalize the RFP, select the contractor with contracts in place, and begin the design process this year. We’re hopeful that we can get the whole project completed by next summer! We appreciate the community's continued support and interest in this project as it has been a long time in the making.
Another big undertaking is the Trail Master Plan. We are waiting on proposals from several professional firms to assist with the development of a Trail Master Plan. The intent is to bring professional evaluation and recommendations to existing trail systems and provide direction for future areas of development.
Work continues on the All American Trail expansion to Canyon Lake! Our friends at Dakota Point Brewing are sponsoring the Hot Apple Pie Challenge. Complete 5 runs on the segment from Sioux Park to the River Trail (behind Abourezk Law offices) in Strava for a free beer at the next Bevs with the Board on July 17th!
All of this trail work doesn’t happen with trail fairies! Join Maintenance Mondays and help us reach our goal of 30+ unique volunteers at our work days. We're well on our way - let's keep the momentum rolling!
Our July 7th make up day is July 14th—Monday! Grab your gloves, closed toed shoes, and some water and meet us at the Stonewall Trailhead.
Youth Rides Pilot
This summer has been the start to our youth cycling pilot program. So far we have held 4 different rides with 25 different kids and can’t wait to have more! The next meetup will be July 20 at 3pm location to be announced. Bring your friends and enjoy a fun ride
Several youth who attended our youth day lined up with their bikes on the pavement at Founders’ Park.
